New Progressive Party (NPP) President Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia on Sunday accompanied the group of incumbent senators and candidates for the Senate of Puerto Rico under the NPP insignia in the filing of their candidacies for in Dorado the upper chamber in the November 2024 elections.

Pierluisi asked for a vote for the entire NPP team in the Senate.

“I have at my side the former president, and who will be president of the Senate of Puerto Rico, Thomas Rivera Schatz,” the governor said in a written statement. “Because having a Senate and a House in the hands of the Popular Party is an ordeal, and despite that Legislative Assembly, which obstructs and hamstrings good people for high-level positions in our government, what we have achieved in these two years and 10 months is irrefutable.”

Filing for at-large seats in the Senate were Rivera Schatz, Gregorio Matías Rosario, Leyda Cruz, Ángel Toledo López and Marcos Fabián González. Sen. Keren Riquelme Cabrera will file this week. Senators filing for the San Juan District were Nitza Morán Trinidad and Juan Oscar Morales, and for the District of Bayamón, Migdalia Padilla Alvelo, Carmelo Ríos Santiago and Mabel Vélez Romero.

A slew of candidates also filed for the districts of Arecibo, Mayagüez, Ponce, Guayama, Humacao and Carolina.

Meanwhile, Carlos Rodríguez Mateo and Luis Rodríguez will soon file their candidacies for the Senate.
