The public service movement “Mom and Dad, I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY LIFE” stems from a message that became a public plea from journalist Alex Delgado’s children, Julián and Isabella, before his passing, and seeks to remind people that love should not be postponed or left until the end. The initiative especially calls upon young people, but also includes other generations.

The family of journalist Alex Delgado announced Monday the launch of the public service movement “Mom and Dad, I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY LIFE,” an initiative that invites the people of Puerto Rico to express their love for their parents or caregivers while they are still alive.

“For a long time, during my youth, due to ignorance, pride, and immaturity, I didn’t have the courage to look my dad in the eyes and tell him ‘I love you,’” Julián Delgado de la Cruz said in a written statement. “I felt it, but I didn’t say it the way I should have.”

The movement stems from a message that became a public plea from Delgado’s children, Julián and Isabella, before his passing, and seeks to remind people that love should not be postponed or left until the end. The initiative especially calls upon young people, but also includes other generations.

“In his last nine months, after he was diagnosed with cancer, a time began that changed our lives,” Delgado de la Cruz added. “Those nine months gave me the opportunity to do what I couldn’t do in my youth: tell him ‘I love you’ consistently.”

The family said the movement aims to promote a simple and urgent act: looking parents or caregivers in the eyes and expressing love directly, as an exercise in collective emotional awareness during the Christmas season and heading into the new year.

“Today I understand something that I want the youth of Puerto Rico to remember: you shouldn’t wait until death to tell your mom and dad ‘I love you with all my life,’” Delgado de la Cruz added.
