Puerto Rican student, Florida partner win Cannes film award

By The Star Staff

A Puerto Rican film student, together with a fellow student from Florida, won in the Best Student Film category at the monthly “Cannes World Film Festival: Remember the Future” competition.

Ricardo Moreno and Sydnee Ackiss won for their short film “Amphibian” in the competition for the month of September. They recently graduated from Full Sail University in Orlando, a school for those pursuing careers in entertainment media and emerging technologies.

According to the Cannes Film Festival website, the monthly format “allows creatives to express themselves as often as possible, and to be in sync with what is happening in the world.”

A red carpet photocall is set up each month for the crews of the films being screened in the Cineum Cannes on the French Riviera, where the public comes to vote for their favorite films to determine the audience award.
