The island women’s tennis team in the 16 years or younger category traveled earlier this week to Orlando, Florida, where they will participate in the Billie Jean King Cup Juniors International Tournament, the final qualifying tournament for the North American region, Central America and the Caribbean.

The event will take place from today to Friday, as announced by the Puerto Rico Tennis Association (PRTA).

The delegation that will be representing the island in the international women’s competition is made up of junior players Carolina Castro, Aurora Lugo and Victoria Cajigas and is led by veteran coach Alejandro Arias. The Puerto Rican team advanced to the final qualifying competition of the Billie Jean King Juniors Cup after its successful performance in the North/Central America and Caribbean region pre-qualification tournament that took place in the Dominican Republic last month. In this week’s final qualifying tournament, to be held at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, they will compete against Canada, Mexico and the United States.

“This important and iconic tournament is not only a high-level sporting competition, but also an enriching experience that encourages the personal growth and professional development of young tennis players,” said PRTA President Dr. William Micheo. “Our girls are more than prepared to proudly represent our island and compete with determination and passion.”

Results from the tournament matches can be found by visiting the PRTA social networks on Facebook: PRTA1 and Instagram: Puertoricotenis.
