The Puerto Rico Tennis Association (PRTA) announced the official start of the National Tennis Team’s participation in the 2025 Davis Cup, which kicked off Wednesday in San José, Costa Rica. The Puerto Rican team debuted against Venezuela in its first Group B match. The next group matches against Jamaica and Honduras will be played today and Friday, respectively, in an exact order to be announced, tournament organizers said.

“We are very excited about our team’s participation in this prestigious international tournament,” PRTA Executive Director Rosa Martínez said. “We have a group of young talents such as Yannik Álvarez Wilms, Marko Mesarovic Natal, Jake Fellows Berlingeri, Gabriel Evans Campos, and Luca-Julián Hotze Martínez, who have shown great commitment and preparation to represent Puerto Rico. Furthermore, Ricardo González-Díaz, with his vast experience, is the ideal leader to guide this team to new achievements in the Davis Cup.”

The group stage of the 2025 Davis Cup is being played through Friday at the Costa Rica Country Club in Escazú. Team Puerto Rico’s goal is to finish in the top two of the group to advance to the play-offs on Saturday, where they will compete for promotion to Group II.

Preliminary group stage schedule:

Wednesday, June 11: Puerto Rico vs. Venezuela (first match for the Puerto Rican team)

Thursday, June 12: Puerto Rico vs. Jamaica or Puerto Rico vs. Honduras (order to be determined by the organizers)

Friday, June 13: Puerto Rico vs. Jamaica or Puerto Rico vs. Honduras (order to be determined by the organizers)

The Davis Cup is the most prestigious men’s team tennis competition in the world, and Puerto Rico’s participation in the tournament reaffirms the island’s commitment to the development of tennis internationally, the PRTA said, expressing its gratitude to the coaches, families and sponsors who have enabled the national team’s participation and extended an invitation to the community to closely follow the team’s progress during the competition.
