The island Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DNER) announced Thursday the opening of requests for proposals (RFP) to evaluate the biodiversity and conservation of amphibians in Puerto Rico.

The project seeks to identify and manage the conservation of the animals on the archipelago including the offshore islands of Mona, Desecheo, Vieques and Culebra.

“The proposal includes the monitoring of bioacoustics, creation of a population distribution map and recommendations for the better management of the species for better conservation,” Roberto Méndez, the DNER interim secretary, said in a written statement.

The deadline for sending the proposal is Oct. 25 and must be sent to rlrivera@drna.pr.gov. The study uses 400 points selected and will last for one year.

More information can be found on the DNER’s (initials in Spanish DRNA) social media accounts.
