With the return to school, LEAP Social Enterprise, the largest network of public alliance schools on the island, announced the opening of spaces for new students this month in its western schools, located in Isabela and Mayagüez.
The organization continues to expand its efforts to transform public education through a free-access STEAM educational model, with schools featuring innovative curricula, a dual-language approach, socio-emotional support for families, access to academic scholarships, and guaranteed access to university.
LEAP operates specialized schools that integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), with a bilingual curriculum aligned with the needs of each region. In the western region, it has a school specializing in marine and aerospace sciences in Isabela and one in agriculture in Mayagüez.
“LEAP’s mission is to ensure that every child and young person in Puerto Rico maximizes their potential and has access to a high-quality education, regardless of their socioeconomic background,” said Dr. Sheila Vélez, chief academic officer of LEAP Social Enterprise.
This January, the organization will be enrolling students for the eighth and ninth grades in both Isabela and Mayagüez. Enrollment in both schools is free of charge and includes textbooks, materials, and a food program.
LEAP Isabela operates from the former Benjamín Corchado school. In Mayagüez, the school operates in the renovated facilities of the former Elderly Care Home.
