The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami announced on Tuesday the formation of Tropical Storm Lee, whose center should pass some 350 miles north of Puerto Rico as a hurricane later this week.
According to the NHC, Tropical Storm Lee was located some 1,500 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, moving west-northwest at 15 miles per hour (mph), with sustained winds of up to 40 mph. The storm was maintaining a minimum central pressure of 12 millibars.
The system poses a potential threat to the Leeward Islands and those interested in that area are advised to monitor the progress of the depression. It could reach major hurricane status within days, implying more intense winds and dangerous conditions.
