San Germán Mayor Virgilio Olivera Olivera congratulated and celebrated on Thursday the gold medal earned by the beloved young para-athlete from the southwestern town, Camila S. Franco, in the well known Rio Open G-2 sports competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“For us, without a doubt, Camila is synonymous with perseverance, great self-improvement, excellence and, above all, success,” the mayor said in a written statement. “With the above in mind, we take this opportunity to congratulate her, as she deserves. Camila is a native of our beloved City of San Germán, where she is also trained.”
“Today you not only fill us with pride, all the people of San Germán, but you also do the same with all Puerto Ricans and those who reside among us,” Olivera added.
The mayor went on to note that the taekwondo athlete “is part of the national para athletics team; she is a great example of perseverance, discipline and sporting excellence.”
“Her training and athletic development take place at the San Germán sports facilities, where she has the support and accompaniment of coaches committed to her growth,” he said.
“Camila is a symbol of what the competitive spirit of the Sangermeño represents: courage, passion and determination,” Olivera said. “Today we celebrate her ‘Gold Medal’ as a triumph of an entire people that believes in its young people and in their ability to transcend barriers.”
“Camila’s great achievement not only positions Puerto Rico on the international map of adaptive sports, but also highlights San Germán’s commitment to the development of our high-performance athletes, regardless of their circumstances,” the mayor emphasized.
