With an investment of $117,000, Camuy Mayor Gabriel “Gaby” Hernández Rodríguez on Saturday delivered the completely renovated residence of Carmen Morales González, a resident of the Barrio Ciénegas, who will now be able to live in a safe, dignified and fully equipped home thanks to the municipal program Tu Hogar Seguro.
“In Camuy, in addition to building houses, we build hope,” the mayor said during the delivery of the home. “Today we deliver a home that represents the joint effort of the municipality, solidarity entities and our community. It is a symbol of our commitment to those who need it most.”
The residence, which presented serious structural and hygenic problems, was completely remodeled and the work included a full roof installation, installation of new windows and doors, replacement of the electrical system, remodeled kitchen and bathrooms, interior and exterior construction, as well as the installation of a 600-gallon motorized cistern to ensure the water supply.
In addition to the structural intervention, the project had the support of entities and companies committed to the mission of the program. The Sonell Foundation, for example, provided a living room, dining room, bedroom set and TV table, together valued at $2,718.32.
Also, Walmart Puerto Rico supplied cooking items, bedding, hygiene products and cleaning materials, with a value of $500. Friends Quality Group, meanwhile, provided an air conditioner for the bedroom valued at $800.
“When a family receives a renovated home, they receive a new opportunity,” Hernández Rodríguez said. “In Camuy we will continue to promote projects that transform lives and provide security to our residents. I am grateful for the efforts of Senator Héctor “Gaby” González and Representative Joel Franqui for the allocation of these funds to make this possible.”
