Canóvanas Mayor Lornna Soto Villanueva on Wednesday denounced acts of vandalism and theft in two educational institutions in the northeastern municipality.
“In the last few hours, unidentified individuals were captured by security cameras while stealing doors, windows, tools, desks and other materials from the new School of Fine Arts, dedicated to the composer Alfonso Fuentes Colón, and the Nidito de Amor preschool in the Parcelas de Campo Rico,” Soto Villanueva said in a written statement.
“This is an attack not only against our schools, but also against the entire community of Canóvanas,” the mayor said. “We are going to find these individuals. These acts of vandalism harm our children and the future of our education. I call on all citizens not to buy stolen merchandise and to cooperate with the authorities to identify those responsible for these crimes.”
The Puerto Rico Police and the Canóvanas Municipal Police are investigating the incident and requesting the public’s collaboration to find those responsible. The images from the security cameras are being analyzed to identify those responsible.
Citizens are urged to report any potentially relevant information to the Canóvanas Police headquarters at (787) 957-0787 or to the Puerto Rico Police confidential line at (787) 343-2020.
