The University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus (UPRRP) began the 2024-2025 academic year with an increase in the number of enrolled students, reaching a total of 12,059. Of these, 9,336 will pursue undergraduate studies and 2,723 graduate studies, according to Chancellor Dr. Angélica Varela Llavona.
The increase represents growth compared to the previous academic year, which began with 11,651 students.
“To our students, both new and those returning, I want to express my most effusive welcome,” Varela Llavona said. “You are the heart of our institution, and it is our commitment to provide you with an enriching academic environment, where you can develop your full potential.”
The chancellor also highlighted the dedication of the teaching and non-teaching staff, recognizing their fundamental role in the functioning of the university and in the training of students.
“To our esteemed teaching staff, I deeply thank you for your dedication and passion for teaching and research,” she said. “You are the ones who guide our students in their training, fostering critical thinking and knowledge that are essential to face the challenges of the future.”
In her message, Varela Llavona highlighted the academic offering at UPRRP, which includes cutting-edge programs such as the master’s degree in project management in distance learning mode, the post-baccalaureate academic certificate in disaster planning, and several doctorates in specialized areas such as computer science and rehabilitation counseling.
