The New York Mets announced late last week that Carlos Beltrán will be inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame, a recognition that highlights his career during the seven seasons he wore the team’s uniform.
“I receive this recognition with deep gratitude,” Beltrán said in a written statement on Friday following the announcement of his induction. “Beyond being a source of pride for me, I hope it will also be for my family and Puerto Rico. Baseball has been my life, and throughout the years I have wanted to contribute to the development of the sport in different ways. I have enjoyed every stage of my career with great passion and commitment.”
The native of Manatí added that his years with the Mets “were very special and filled me with many satisfactions,” and said he receives the honor “with humility,” emphasizing the support of the organization and the fans.
Beltrán, who will be the 36th member of the Mets Hall of Fame, will share his place with legends such as Mike Piazza, Gary Carter, Jerry Koosman, David Wright, and Tom Seaver. Lee Mazzilli and Bobby Valentine will also be inducted at the same ceremony.
The switch-hitting outfielder played for the Mets from 2005 to 2011, earning five All-Star appearances, three Gold Gloves, two Silver Slugger Awards, and helping the team reach the National League Championship Series in 2006. Beltrán retired as a player after the 2017 season.
The induction ceremony will be held next year at Citi Field in New York.
